Seeking A Destination

Passage: Hebrews 11:10
Service Type:

Abraham’s journey into the land of Canaan was a walk of faith marked by promise without possession. Though God declared the land to be his, Abraham lived in it as a stranger—dwelling in tents, building altars, and trusting a future he could not yet see. Hebrews 11 tells us why: Abraham was looking beyond Canaan itself, seeking “the city that has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” His life in the promised land mirrors our own pilgrimage on earth—we live in bodies that are not yet fully redeemed, stewarding what is presently “another’s,” while longing for what will one day truly be ours. As Jesus teaches in Luke, faithfulness in what is entrusted to us now determines whether we will receive what is our own. Like Abraham, we are called to live faithfully as sojourners, caring for this temporary dwelling while pressing forward in hope toward the eternal city where our true inheritance lies.
